  3. Performance-Linked Pay: Around 75% of companies have now adopted performance-linked incentives (PLIs), making compensation more variable. Employees must not only meet but exceed expectations to secure a fair reward.

Three Trends to Watch in 2025

  1. Government Policy and Tax Cuts
    The government is exploring income tax cuts, which, while not increasing salaries directly, could boost disposable income. This would offer some financial relief to employees grappling with rising costs.

  2. The Rise of Artificial Intelligence
    With 55% of Indian firms already embracing AI, automation is reshaping the job market. Employees who fail to upskill risk being replaced, underscoring the importance of continuous learning.

  3. Corporate Reluctance to Share Profits
    Despite record profits in the corporate world, companies remain cautious about increasing employee salaries. With India’s GDP growth projected to slow to 6.4%, the lowest in four years, employees might not see substantial hikes despite their hard work.


The Lesson for Engineering Students

For engineering students, these developments highlight the importance of preparation and adaptability. Here’s what you can learn:

  1. Continuous Learning is Key: In an era dominated by AI and automation, staying relevant requires constant upskilling. Master emerging technologies and tools to future-proof your career.

  2. Effort Must Align with Results: Much like Arjun couldn’t force Meera’s decision, your hard work won’t always guarantee immediate rewards. Be strategic about where and how you invest your energy.

  3. Patience and Resilience: Whether waiting for a promotion or navigating the uncertainties of life, patience is critical. Perseverance often determines long-term success.

  4. Adapt to Change: From performance-linked pay to technological disruptions, adaptability is non-negotiable. Embrace change, and use it as an opportunity to grow.
